A patron deity is one with which an individual or group will choose to work very closely over a long period. My journey into building a relationship with deity was fraught with anxiety. However, something clicked when I became reacquainted with Gefjon. I first saw her as the lovely statue (pictured left) in Copenhagen, Denmark. I was 17 years old and knew nothing of the old gods when we first met. Gazing up at the fountain, I thought about how little I understood the world. Twenty years later, as a practicing pagan, I accidentally encountered her full story. I immediately recalled our first meeting and felt a kinship.
Who is Gefjon?
Gefjon is a Norse goddess of agriculture, abundance, and prosperity. She traveled through Sweden disguised as a homeless woman. When she appeared before the generous King Gylfi, he granted her as much land as four oxen could plow in one day. Gefjon summoned her four sons, which she had had by an unnamed giant. She turned them into oxen to plow the land. Not only did they plow the ground, but they also dragged it from Sweden. The resulting depression became the lake Mälaren. Out into the ocean, the land became the Danish island of Zealand. This island is where the city of Copenhagen is today located. Now her statue in downtown Copenhagen makes sense!
Why her for me?
You may know me because I’ve worked organizing meetups in the LA/OC Pagan community. Or maybe we met when I volunteered to help organize events like PCR and Pagan Pride. I have been a very busy project manager for over a decade. And I now manage my organization’s Project Management Office. Gefjon uses her assets and opportunities to get stuff done. As a project manager by trade and an organizer at heart, I feel blessed with Gefjons Gifts. I hope to share them with you so we can all make a plan that feeds our strengths and get more of the valuable things done. Let’s talk about the services I offer in business consultation.
